Academic Overview

Niwot High School offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme for juniors and seniors. Students also have access to a variety of Advanced Placement, world languages, computer science, and performing and visual arts courses to complement core offerings. U.S. News & World Report and the Washington Post have consistently ranked NHS as one of the top high schools in Colorado.

Highlights Include:

  • Niwot High School students are academically engaged with 40 percent of all students enrolled in International Baccalaureate (IB) programming and 71 percent of upperclassmen enrolled in at least one IB or AP course
  • Niwot High students are very involved with over 90 percent participating in at least one co-curricular or extra-curricular activity
  • The Denver Business Journal ranked NHS as a top-10 high school in the Denver Metro area
  • Computer science pathways courses include Intro to Programming, Intro to App Development, and AP Computer Science
  • Students score higher than average on college entrance exams: ACT (27.4) and SAT (1135)
  • For the second consecutive year, Mile High Magazine ranked NHS #1 in 4A athletics for the entire state of Colorado
  • Student honors include: Boettcher Scholars, National Merit Scholars, appointments to the U.S. military academies, and acceptance into every Ivy League school
  • 19 out of 20 sports have participated in postseason state tournaments since 2013
  • District, state, and nationally recognized performing arts programs with students invited to perform at Carnegie Hall, Disneyland, Disney World, and on Broadway
  • World languages in French and Spanish
