Principal’s Update

As we have successfully started another school year and look forward excitedly to all of the great things that this year will hold, it is worthwhile to take a look back at the firm foundation that has been set.

Niwot High School continues to rank among the top public high schools in our region, state and beyond. Outstanding performances and accomplishments in music, art and athletics complement our number one mission: academic excellence by design! For example, the Cougars:

  • Were awarded the “Silver Medal” designation by US News and World Report in ranking NHS as one of the top high schools in Colorado

  • Had two seniors offered the prestigious Boettcher Scholarship, Rohan Baishya and Madison Haussy.

  • Excelled at taking the PSAT, as 7 students were recognized as National Merit Semifinalists

  • Won the State title in Gymnastics, the first state title in that sport in 15 years

  • Have a 40% participation rate in the I.B. or Pre-I.B. program, offering students the opportunity to participate in the highest internationally-recognized curricular program available

  • Have access to 13 Advanced Placement courses supported by an expansive and comprehensive program of studies that challenges and supports students of all ability levels

  • Made up a majority of the district’s  Up-A-Creek Robotics Team, which took 11th at the World Championships in St. Louis

  • Are committed to excellence through rigor; 271 students took a total of 543 AP exams last spring with 70% “passing” (scoring three or above)

  • Are committed to scholarship, service, leadership and character; 73 new members were inducted into the National Honor Society, bringing the total to just over 130

  • Enjoy the opportunity to partake in over 30 clubs and student organizations

  • Have won State in Girls Track and Field in 3 out of the last 4 years

  • Are grateful for the impressive community support; the Class of 2016 was awarded over $11 million in scholarship awards

  • Are talented in the performing arts: representatives from instrumental and vocal music programs have recently performed in New York City and Disneyland, and annually send many representatives to the All-District and All-State bands and choirs.

  • Thespians presented 3 fabulous shows; Black Comedy, The Giver, and The Sound of Music

  • Are represented by 3 individuals who had perfect scores on the ACT last year; Joanna Liu, Mohika Nagpal and Joshua McInerney

We thank our community for the ongoing support, our staff for bringing their “A” game to work everyday to help students reach their potential, and our students for coming to school ready to work hard, learn, and have fun everyday. It is going to be a great year at Niwot High School!
