Longmont Community Foundation honors graduating seniors

The Longmont Community Foundation handed out six St. Vrain Valley Community Service Awards and seven various scholarships Monday afternoon to college-bound high school seniors from the Longmont area.

The awards honored various traits from community service to musicianship to athleticism to commitment to extracurricular activities and academic success.

St. Vrain high schools rank nationally in recent U.S. News & World Report Best High School Rankings

St. Vrain high schools continue to rank locally and nationally according to the recent U.S. News & World Report 2015 Best High Schools Rankings. In Colorado, St. Vrain high schools were compared to 448 high schools and four ranked in the top nine percent. Nationally, St. Vrain high schools were compared to more than 21,000 public high schools throughout all 50 states and the District of Columbia and four ranked in the top eight percent.

Colorado ACT: April 28

Niwot High School will administer the Colorado ACT  to all juniors on Tuesday, April 28.  Juniors should bring a photo ID, an approved calculator, and number 2 pencils for testing.  Having a cell phone will invalidate the test.  The ACT begins at 7:20 am. Juniors will need to be in their seats in their assigned test rooms by 7:15 am. The test will be completed at 11:30 am.

Student Council Elections

Leaders!  Any Niwot freshmen, Soph, or junior who is interested in membership on the 2015-16 Niwot Student Council please stop by room 460 before or after school or during passing periods to discuss this opportunity with Sponsor Mr. Duffy and to pick up an Election Application Packet.  All completed applications are due back to Mr. Duffy by 2:30 on Wednesday, April 22nd.

SVVSD robotics teams excel; preparing for World Robotics Competitions

From science fiction tales of R2-D2 and HAL 9000, comes today’s reality of robotics in our daily lives. This advancing technology requires 21st century skills of teamwork, critical thinking and creativity. In April, three teams from the St. Vrain Valley School District will take on that challenge at world level robotics competitions.

New! NHS Parent Book Club

Niwot High School will be starting its first Parent Book Club this semester! The book club is open to all NHS parents. There will be two one hour discussions, one on Thursday, April 2nd from 4pm to 5pm, and the other, on Monday, April 13th from 6pm to 7pm. Both discussion dates will cover the same information, so only one meeting is necessary to attend. The group will be led by Assistant Principal, Susan Burnett and School Counselor, Amy Foote. The book we will be reading this semester is Brainstorm: The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain by Daniel Siegel.

New Sign is Working!

On January 29, 2015, the new NHS sign became fully functional.  This should allow the staff and administration of NHS to keep the community more up to date on upcoming events and news happening at Niwot High School.  Thank you to the NHS Education Foundation and the St. Vrain Valley School District for partnering in bringing this sign to fruition!

Upcoming P/T Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences are quickly approaching.  They will be held on February 4th and 11th, from 3:30 - 7:00 p.m.  We are trying something new! We will be using an on-line reservation system which will go live via a link on our website on January 30th.

NHS Education Foundation fundraiser coming up soon!

On February 8th the Niwot High School Education Foundation will be hosting their annual Signature Event at the Cyclhops in Longmont from 5 to 8 pm. This is the major fundraising event for the Ed Foundation to help continue to support our efforts to educate the youth of NHS.  Any and all staff members, community members, and parents are welcome to attend! The aim of the signature event is to raise an average of over $100 per person attending in order to adequately support NHS teachers in their curriculum.
