Advanced Placement Chemistry A/B/C

This lab-based course is the equivalent of a first-year college chemistry course. Students will attain a depth of understanding of fundamentals and a reasonable competence in dealing with chemical problems. The course contributes to the development of abilities to think clearly and to express ideas, orally and in writing, with clarity and logic. It stresses principles and concepts and their relationships to the descriptive chemistry upon which they are based. Topics such as chemical stochiometry, structure of matter, kinetic theory of gases, chemical equilibrium, chemical kinetics, and the concepts of thermodynamics will be studied. Credit may be earned at many colleges by successfully completing the A.P. exam, enabling students to take second-year chemistry or to take courses where chemistry is a prerequisite.
